Baseball Uses Balanced Offensive Attack To Dominate St. John's Friday Night

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop used a balanced offensive attack to dominate the first game of a three-game series with St. John's Friday night, 15-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eagles plated the first four runs across in the bottom of the first
  • The highlight of the fast start was Josh Skowronski's two-run RBI single to center field with two outs
  • In the second, Jaylen Hernandez's sac fly to center field got Chazz Grossington home and made the score 5-0 Winthrop
  • St. John's got on the board on Orbon's RBI single to right center field with two outs, scoring Cowan on the play
  • In the bottom of the fourth and the top of the fifth, each team got a runner on third, but the next batter was retired to end the threat
  • Winthrop extended the margin to 7-1 at the end of the sixth on Cole Yearsley's RBI single to center field and Nate Chronis bringing Hernandez home via getting hit by a pitch
  • Both plays occurred with one out
  • The Eagles then put the Johnnies away by scoring eight runs over the final two innings (four in the seventh and four in the eighth)
