HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eagles got the scoring started in the top of the first as Gabe Natividad scored from second via a Cougar error with one out
  • Nate Chronis's homer to left field with two outs in the next stanza doubled the score for Winthrop
  • The visitors from Rock Hill missed out on a shot to further extend their lead with guys on second and third with one out as the Cougars induced a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat in the third
  • CofC scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the third on consecutive RBI singles by Plyler and Baumhofer with two outs
  • Baumhofer's single scored two runs on the play
  • Winthrop loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the fifth and capitalized on the opportunity, scoring five runs to re-take the lead, 7-3
  • Cole Yearsley's two-run RBI double put Winthrop back out in front
  • Two plays later Josh Skowronski grounded out but got Ethan Wilson home, extending the margin to two
  • Chronis then capped off the big inning with his second homer of the game on the next play, this one being a two-run shot to left field
  • Eagles again loaded the bases in the next inning and plated two more runs across to go up by six
  • E. Wilson drew a walk and on the very next play Yearsley was hit by pitch that gave Winthrop another free run and for all intents and purposes put the game out of reach
TEAM TIDBITS
  • Winthrop moves to 1,393-1,010-7 all-time as a program
  • After the three-run third posted by the Cougars, Harris and two Eagle relief pitchers held CofC to no runs over the final six innings
