Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball wrapped up its play at the Coach Cooke Memorial with a 1-0 loss to Charlotte and a 10-2 win in five innings over St. Bonaventure, Saturday on Terry Field

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Charlotte
- Emma Jackson led off the first with a double down the left field line but was eventually stranded at third
- Jenna Lord led off the top of the fourth inning with a home run to left for the first lead of the game
- In the bottom of the fourth the Eagles threatened to tie as they loaded the bases with one out
- Katie Beck singled to lead off followed by Grayson Buckner reaching on a fielder's choice off a sac bunt
- Mili Watts was hit on a 1-2 count to load the bases but the Eagles were unable to push any runs across as Emma Roberson struck out on a full count and Jackson grounded out to short
- In the bottom of the seventh, Jackson singled to left with one out followed by a single up the middle by Megan Powell
- Two batters later Peyton Bryden singled to center as pinch-runner Kinsley Peek was out at the plate for the third out
vs. St. Bonaventure
- Eagles grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Powell walked with one out to get things going
- Two batters later Katie Beck homered to left field for a 2-0 lead
- Eagles tacked on more in the bottom of the second as Grayson Buckner set the table with a leadoff double to center
- Ashlyn Bunn grounded to the pitcher as she tried to throw out Buckner at third but the throw was late and off the mark which allowed Bucker to come home for a 3-0 lead
- With two outs, Jackson took a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left center for a two-run shot and a 5-0 lead
- Powell made it back-to-back home runs as she sent one to right center off the scoreboard
- In the third inning Watts drove in two runs as she hit a shot to short that hopped up and off the short stop as Buckner and Beck raced around to score on the play
- Jackson made it 9-0 as she singled up the middle to plate Bunn from second
- Bonnies got two runs back in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Kendall Stull and RBI ground out by Mackenzie Frani
EXTRA BASES
- Beck had her first two home run game of her career and the first by an Eagle since teammate Tia Beckham earlier this season at UC San Diego
- Beck finished the weekend with nine RBI as she was 7-for-12 at the plate with two doubles and three home runs and now leads the team with 11 RBI
- Heading into the upcoming week Beck is riding a five-game hit streak
- Of the 10 runs the Eagles scored on the day, eight of them came with two outs
ON DECK
Winthrop is back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 4 as it will host Youngstown St. at 2:30 p.m. and then face Mount Saint Mary's at 5 p.m.
