Eagles Score Early And Often In Defeat Of Wagner; Kropf Mashes Three-Run Bomb

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop scored early and often in a defeat of Wagner at home by a final score of 13-5 Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The visitors led off the second inning with a Xavier Ulrich homer to left field
  • Eagles answered with five straight runs in their half of the frame
  • Josh Skowronski started things off by getting Colin Crowley home on an RBI triple down the right field line
  • On the next play, Nate Chronis's single to center field drove in Skowronski
  • Then four plays later with two outs, Koby Kropf capped off the scoring binge with a three-run shot to left field
  • Winthrop extended their lead to 8-1 at the end of the fourth
  • Gabe Natividad, Kropf and Ethan Wilson all hit RBI singles to left field in the stanza
  • The game became a 10-run affair after Winthrop once again put up a three-spot in the fifth
  • Jaylen Hernandez's two-run RBI single to left center with one out drove in Dusty Vela and Chronis and on the next play Natividad scored via a wild pitch
  • Chronis's RBI single to left field with one out in the bottom of the sixth made the score 12-1
  • After holding the Seahawks scoreless for four straight innings, Wagner put up three runs in the seventh
  • Ulrich's sac fly to left field brought in Nicholas Mazzotta and two plays later Bryce Phelps's two-run RBI double down the left field line made it an eight-run game
  • Eagles scored one more time in the eighth on Chancellor Jennings's RBI single to right field with no one out, getting Alan Benhardt home
  • Wagner wrapped up the scoring by having Connor Roache reach second on a fielder's choice, scoring Jayden Alvarez with one out
