Ethan Wilson's Homer Caps Massive Comeback In Game Two Of Series With Wagner

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop staged a massive comeback to win game two of the series with Wagner at home by a final score of 13-11 Saturday afternoon after trailing by 11-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Entering the top of the fifth, Winthrop had staked themselves to a 3-0 lead, scoring one run each in the second, third and fourth inning
  • Harrison Wilson's RBI double down the left field line with one out drove in Cole Yearsley and got the Eagles on the board first
  • In the next inning, Jaylen Hernandez came in to score from second base on a Wagner error
  • Chancellor Jennings grounded out to drive in Yearsley with one out in the fourth
  • Wagner scored eight unanswered runs in the top of the fifth
  • After Winthrop got a run back in their half of the fifth on a Hernandez's RBI single to right center field with one out, the Seahawks would score a combined three runs over the next two innings to take an 11-4 lead
  • Winthrop started their comeback by loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and capitalized as Koby Kropf hit a two-run RBI single and cut the lead to five
  • The Eagles then won the game with a seven-run eighth
  • Winthrop again loaded the bases with no one out
  • Josh Skowronski and Gabe Natividad were both hit by a pitch to walk in a run on consecutive plays
  • Hernandez hit a bases clearing single to tie the game, still with no one out
  • After Kropf fouled out, Ethan Wilson capped the comeback with a two-run home run to left center field
  • Brodt came in the ninth and successfully recorded the save
TEAM TIDBITS
  • Winthrop moves to 1,387-1,004-7 all-time as a program
  • Winthrop moves to 876-400-4 all-time at home
  • Rehkow earned his first career win as an Eagle
