Farmville, Va. – A late 15-0 run in the first half propelled Winthrop to an 85-59 victory at Longwood for the 20
th win on the season, Thursday evening inside the Joan Perry Brock Center.

FIRST HALF
- Longwood opened the scoring on its second possession as Michael Christmas knocked down a three
- Eagles worked hard on the offensive glass for their first points as Kelton Talford boarded a miss, found Nick Johnson for a three that was off the mark and K.J. Doucet came down with the rebound in traffic and quickly scored at the 17:20 mark
- Eagles jumped out to a 5-3 lead after Kasen Harrison canned a three from the left wing as the shot clock expired
- A Logan Dunccomb short baseline jumper tied the game at 9-9 with 14:27 to play in the half
- Eagles made it a 5-0 spurt to take a 12-9 lead after Talford scored inside for his first basket
- Lancers answered the spurt with back-to-back baskets as Kyrell Luec scored off the drive and then buried a three to regain the lead at 14-12 with 10:33 remaining in the half
- Winthrop answered with six straight points to take an 18-14 lead
- It began with Harrison scoring inside off a drive followed by a Talford dunk off an inbound play at the baseline and capped off by Isaiah Wilson finding Paul Jones III in transition for the layup
- Eagles led 18-16 when Bryce Baker got hot as he buried a three to lead 21-16 and then Jones III scored again at the rim for a seven point advantage
- Colby Garland's three put a brief stop to the Eagles run but Baker answered with threes on back-to-back possessions to force a Longwood timeout as the lead expanded to 10 at 29-19
- With 6:10 to play in the half, Jaylen Benard hit a three for Longwood to cut the Winthrop lead to 30-24
- Winthrop proceeded to end the half on a 15-0 run from that point to take a 21 point lead at the break
- Eagles only scored two points over a four minutes span before exploding for 13 points in the final 1:59 that included a three from Johnson with 37 seconds left and Doucet knocking down a three as time expired to lead 45-21
SECOND HALF
- Eagles scored the first points out of the half Talford earned free throws and converted both to lead 47-24
- It was a 49-29 lead when the Eagles hit back-to-back threes from Baker and Jones III to build a 26-point advantage
- Winthrop kept pouring it on behind the arc, going 6-for-8 over the first nine and a half minutes of the second half
- The Eagles pushed their lead to as large as 32 at the 13:17 mark (61-29)
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Winthrop finished the game shooting 48 percent while holding Longwood to 38 percent
- Eagles turned in a season-best performance behind the arc, going 16-for-34 as eight different Eagles joined in the fun
- Longwood was 14-of-16 at the foul line while the Eagles were 9-for-16
- The battle on the boards was won by Winthrop, 34-31
- Baker led the Eagles in scoring off the bench with 23 and the bench chipped in a total of 43 points in the game
- Isaiah Wilson led the Eagles with six assists, tying his career-best for a single-game
- Winthrop forced 23 turnovers (12 steals) the converted into 28 points
- Winthrop made five of its final seven shots of the first half to help build the 21-point lead at the break
- Eagles led 18-16 at the 9:13 mark before outscoring the Lancers 27-8 the rest of the half
NOTABLES
- The 16 three-pointers by the Eagles were a season-high in any game this year and it was the 8th time on the year the Eagles had 10 or more triples
- The win is the 20th for the Eagles on the year, the 9th time they've achieved this as an NCAA D1 member and the 15th time in program history
- Talford surpassed 1,800 career points as he finished the game with nine points
- Talford had four rebounds to give him 899 in his career
- Eagles finished with 20 assists, tying the season-high
- The Eagles led by 21 points at the half and led by 23 points at the half in the first meeting
- Winthrop held a conference opponent under 60 points for the first time this season and for the first time since holding Charleston Southern to 46 on Feb. 7, 2024
- Winthrop is now 15-5 all-time in the Big South Conference ESPNU Wildcard matchups including the last three on the road

Winthrop has one day between games as it returns home for the regular season finale on Saturday, Mar. 1 against UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. There will be a pregame ceremony to recognize this year's senior class.
