How it Happened
First Quarter | The two teams split the first 16 points in the opening five minutes. Presbyterian hit three-pointers on back-to-back trips and tacked on another basket in the paint to go up 16-8 at the 3:02 mark. After a free throw extended the visitors lead back up to seven at 17-10 a few seconds later, Winthrop rallied to tie the game at 17 on
Amourie Porter's buzzer-beating layup.
Second Quarter | Again in the first five minutes both the Eagles and the Blue Hose traded baskets, resulting in a tie score at 21. Then with the Eagles down 26-22 with 3:59 left, Winthrop closed the half on a 6-0 run. This gave Winthrop a 28-26 lead at the half after
Marissa Gasaway's basket with 51 seconds left.
Third Quarter | The home standing Eagles picked up right where they left off to start the 2
nd half, going on a 16-3 run to extend their lead to 43-29 at the 3:59 mark after Porter's layup. Presbyterian responded with a 10-4 run to end the third stanza. Winthrop would lead 47-39 going into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter | Winthrop jumped out of the gates to begin the final quarter, scoring the first six points to lead by 14 at 53-39 at the 8:40 mark after a score by
Konnor Gambrell. The Blue Hose answered by scoring 15 of the next 19 points to cut it to three at 57-54 with 18 seconds left. But that's as close as Presbyterian would get, as Porter hit two free throws to ice the game with six seconds to go.
