Rock Hill, S.C. -- Winthrop freshman
Lonna Addison has been named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Addison went 2-0 in the circle vs. Georgia State and Appalachian State with a 1.08 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched. Making her first start of the season on Saturday, Addison defeated GSU, 5-3 with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. On Sunday against App State, she entered the contest in the second inning with the Eagles trailing, 3-0. She allowed just one hit in 7.0 innings and fanned six batters, and worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning to secure the 4-3 victory.
It is the second straight week the Eagles garnered the pitching honor as
Megan Powell was the Co-Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 11. It's the second straight year the Eagles have had two different pitchers earn the conference weekly honor in the same season. In fact, dating back to last season the Eagles have claimed the last three Big South Pitcher of the Week Honors (Addison, Powell,
Mackenzie Smith).
