Eagles Fight Hard In Loss At High Point Saturday Night

High Point, N.C. – Winthrop fought hard in a loss at conference-leading High Point Saturday night.

How it Happened
 
First Quarter | The Eagles led 15-9 at the 4:53 mark after Mya Pierfax's turnaround jumper. Five different scored in the opening five minutes of the stanza. High Point then went on a 10-4 run to tie the game at 19 at the end of the quarter.
 
Second Quarter | Konnor Gambrell's immediate layup broke the tie but an 8-0 run by the Panthers gave them a 27-21 lead at the 7:02 mark. Winthrop scored nine of the next 11 points to trim the margin to one at 31-30 three minutes later after Ar'Mani Reid's layup. The Panthers then ended the half by scoring eight of the final 12 points to take a 39-34 lead going into the locker room.
 
Third Quarter | Winthrop was held to one point in the first five minutes of the third quarter as the Panthers extended their lead to 46-35. The Eagles got to within seven at 50-43 after Gambrell's basket with 3:12 remaining as Gambrell went on a personal 8-0 run. High Point would lead 52-45 at the end of the third quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter | The Panthers quickly scored nine of the first 11 points of the fourth quarter to take their margin up to 14 at 61-47 at the 6:56 mark. High Point maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the way. The Panther defense held the Eagles to nine points over the final seven minutes of the contest as High Point went on to win the game 69-56.
