Rock Hill, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program saw the both the 2025 season and the
Mike McGuire era start with a doubleheader sweep of Merrimack Friday afternoon at the newly renamed Founders Field, routing the Warriors 16-4 in the first game and then posting an 8-0 shutout in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
- Winthrop struck home immediately to start the day
- After a pair of singles, Koby Kropf brought in Crowley on the next play
- Winthrop nearly doubled their lead in the second with runners on second and third with two out but Jaylen Hernandez grounded out to end the threat
- The Eagles made the score 3-0 as Kropf came in to score from second on an error by Merrimack and Wilson's sac fly, scoring Yearsley
- The home team seriously threatened again in the bottom of the fifth with runners again on second and third with two outs but Dusty Vela grounded into a double play to end the inning
- The Eagles upped their lead to 6-0 in their next trip up offensively on a homer by Gabe Natividad and a two-run blast by Yearsley
- Merrimack fought back in their half of the seventh, cutting the deficit to two on a grand slam
- It was all Winthrop after that, scoring the final 10 runs of the first game

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
- Wilson hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the second with one out and doubled the score in the next inning on Hernandez's RBI single and Yearley's sac fly, driving in Hernandez
- The Warriors only really threatened in the third, getting a man on third with two outs but a strikeout ended their only chance to get on the scoreboard in the second game
- With both Wilson's on second and third in the bottom of the sixth with one out and Winthrop still ahead 4-0, Vela and Natividad were retired to end the inning
- Yearsley's RBI double and Harrison Wilson's sac fly made the score 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning
- Winthrop wrapped up the scoring in the eighth as Josh Skowronksi came in to score on a wild pitch and Crowley's RBI groundout brought in Vela

- This was the first game under the newly renamed Founders Field
- Winthrop moves to 28-17 all-time in season openers
