How it Happened
 
First Quarter | Eagles trailed 7-5 at the 6:46 mark before the Runnin' Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run in a four-minute span to go up 13. Winthrop responded with five quick points to cut it to 18-10 with 1:57 remaining but Gardner-Webb answered with two free throws to lead by 10 a few seconds later. This would remain the score at the end of the frame.
 
Second Quarter | Gardner-Webb opened the second stanza with two shots from deep, extending their lead to 26-10. Winthrop cut it the deficit to eight at 33-25 at the 2:13 mark by scoring 14 of the next 22 points Amourie Porter had nine of the Eagles' nine points during the run. Gardner-Webb then hit a three-pointer to go up 11 with 1:17 left in the half and went into the locker room with a 36-25 lead.
 
Third Quarter | Winthrop scored the first six points of the second half, cutting the score to five at 36-31 at the 8:43 mark, forcing time to be called by Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs answered quickly with four straight points to go up by nine two minutes later. The Eagles continued to hang around, keeping the deficit at 6-9 points for the rest of the quarter. At the end of three periods the Eagles trailed 47-38.
 
Fourth Quarter | Porter's layup while getting fouled and the ensuing free throw made it a six-point game immediately to start the fourth. Gardner-Webb responded with four of the next six points to go ahead by eight at 51-43 with eight minutes left. Olivia Wagner then hit a triple to cut it to five at the 6:53 mark but the Runnin' Bulldogs scored eight of the next 10 points to extend their margin to 11 at 59-48 with nearly three minutes left. The Eagles would score four quick points to cut it to seven with 2:36 remaining but Gardner-Webb would score five straight points to go up 64-52 with 36 seconds left. After two free throws by the Eagles with 25 seconds to go, Gardner-Webb wrapped up the scoring with two free throws of their own.
