Eagles Cruise Past Toccoa Falls

Tai Hamilton Posts 2nd Career Double-Double (10 points, 11 rebounds)

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop placed seven players in double-figures on its way to a 111-62 victory over Toccoa Falls, Tuesday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

  • Grady Jones (14 points)
  • Raheem Kone (12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals)

FIRST HALF
  • Ed Nnamoko scored an And 1 off a feed from Isaiah Wilson to open the scoring and completed the three point play for the early 3-0 lead
  • A Daylen Berry triple put the Eagles on top 6-0 at the 19:20 mark
  • Raheem Kone knocked down a jumper to start a 7-0 run highlighted by a right wing three from Grady Jones to lead 7-6 with 17:25 left
  • Kareem Rozier's let wing three ended the run as the Eagles were back in front 9-7
  • Jones buried another three to regain the lead for Toccoa Falls, but it was short-lived as Rozier drilled another three in transition to lead 12-10 at the 16:17 mark
  • Rozier drove and dished to Nnamoko for a dunk to start a 6-0 spurt, pushing the lead to double-figures at 30-20
  • Toccoa Falls pulled within single-digits after free throws from Sam Witt, but a Josh Meo corner three put Winthrop ahead 33-22 with 9:02 to play in the half
  • Winthrop scored five straight points to take a 16 point lead with 1:01 left, all five points coming from Kody Clouet
  • Brown made two free throws 1.5 seconds left in the half as the Winthrop led 48-34 at the break

SECOND HALF
  • At the 18:39 mark of the half, Berry knocked down a right wing three to ignite a 16-0 run over a two minute span to lead 58-37
  • As part of the run Wilson scored an And 1 and completed the three point play and then scored off a drive to lead by 19
  • Back-to-back threes from Rozier and Seifeldin Hendawy put the Eagles on top by 27 with 15:52 to play
  • Winthrop made seven of its first eight shots to open the second half and continue to increase the lead
  • Eagles pushed the lead to 40 at the 9:50 mark on a Clouet free throw

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Winthrop shot 63 percent from the floor in the second half to finish the game at 55 percent shooting
  • Winthrop held Toccoa Falls to 32 percent from the floor, 27 percent in the second half
  • Eagles connected on 15 threes (15-for-37) and were 14-for-18 at the foul line (78%)
  • The battle on the glass heavily favored the Eagles, 56-25, as they had 19 offensive boards that led to a season-high 28 second chance points
  • Eagles turned 15 turnovers into 24 points off turnovers
  • There were seven Eagles in double-figures led by Daylen Berry's 13 points while Kareem Rozier and Kody Clouet each added 12
  • Tai Hamilton matched his career-high of 10 points while setting a career-high in rebounds (11) and blocks (5)
  • Ed Nnamoko matched his career-high of 10 points while Seifeldin Hendawy and Tommy Kamarad each finished with 10 points as well as Hendawy grabbed a career-best six rebounds
  • From the 6:12 mark of the second half to the 16:37 mark of the second half, the Winthrop defense held Toccoa Falls to 1-of-14 shooting from the field to help push the lead to 20 and eventually 30 points

NOTABLES
  • Eagles hit the century mark for the third time this season, with a season-high 111 points
  • The 15 threes tied a season-high for a single-game
  • Winthrop has now won 65 consecutive games against Non-D1 opponents
