Grand Forks, N.D. – Winthrop men's basketball fell 90-88 at North Dakota as Eli King drained a three with .5 seconds left in the game, Thursday evening in non-conference action.
WINTHROP (7-6, 0-0 Big South)

- Eli King (25 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals)

FIRST HALF
- Eagles scored on their opening possession as Ed Nnamoko tipped the ball in off the glass for the early lead
- The Fighting Hawks scored five straight points to take the lead, but Kody Clouet buried a three to tie the game at 5-5 at the 18:12 mark
- Eagles trailed 12-9 when Josh Meo drove to the basket and scored with an And 1 as he knocked down the free throw to tie it at 12-12 at the 15:34 mark
- Both teams began the game 5-for-10 from the floor as it was 14-14 with 14:39 left in the half
- North Dakota took a 22-20 lead after two free throws by Eli King and pushed the lead to four with two more free throws by Anthony Smith III
- The lead was as much as five with 7:18 left after a three from Garrett Anderson
- North Dakota led 30-26 with 5:30 to play in the half, but a Clouet triple made it a one point game
- Winthrop tied the game with 3:32 remaining as Kareem Rozier drilled a straight away three
- Eagles flipped the half in their favor late with an 11-0 run to lead 45-37 with 37.6 seconds remaining
- Eagles made seven of their last eight field goal attempts of the half and led 47-38 at the break
SECOND HALF
- Fighting Hawks opened the second half scoring as King dropped in a floater
- Greyson Uelmen made it a two possession game with a three at the 18:56 mark, but an And 1 by Logan Duncomb pushed the lead back to eight
- Eagles snagged their first double-digit lead with 17:38 left after another three from Clouet to lead 54-43
- Fighting Hawks brought it back to single-digits as Anderson knocked down a three in transition
- Duncomb free throws at the 16:22 mark gave the Eagles an 11 point lead for a second time, only to see it back down to single-digits as Reggie Thomas drained a three
- During a media timeout, the North Dakota bench was assessed a technical foul as Tommy Kamarad converted the free throws to lead 59-49 with 15:40 to play
- Pharrell Boyogueno dropped in a three with 12:02 remaining to put Winthrop ahead 67-58, but King responded with another three
- King connected on another three with 14:16 remaining and around 30 seconds later
- Duncomb was whistled for a flagrant one foul on a rebound as Wylee Delorme made 1-of-2 free throws to cut Winthrop's lead to six
- Winthrop's lead was down to four with 9:24 left, but Kamarad scored quickly on the other end to lead 72-66
- It became a one possession game with 7:32 left as North Dakota boarded two misses before Smith III finally scored
- Berry responded immediately as he knocked down a three to push the lead back to six
- North Dakota hit the offensive glass again, twice snagging misses before Smith III tipped it in
- On the ensuing possession Winthrop was whistled for a technical as Zach Kraft stepped in and missed both free throws to keep the Eagles in front 77-76
- North Dakota got the possession after the missed free throws with a chance to take the lead as Smith III earned free throws and made both to lead 78-77 with 5:24 remaining
- Two free throws by George Natsvlishvili put the Fighting Hawks up by three, but a Clouet three tied the game at 80-80 with 4:42 to play
- King put the Fighting Hawks on top 84-82 with a little over three minutes remaining and then Natsvlishvili hit 1-of-2 free throws to lead by three with 2:29 left
- Rozier drove to the basket with 1:19 left trailing by a basket, but couldn't get the shot to fall
- North Dakota led by four points with 56 seconds left after a tip-in by Natsvlishvili
- Eagles pushed quickly and earned free throws with 50 seconds left as Clouet hit both free throws
- Winthrop got a defensive stop and got the ball back with a chance to tie or take the lead as it called timeout with 24.8 seconds left to set up a play
- Berry drained a straight away three to take the lead with 11 seconds left, but King came down and drained a three from up top with .5 seconds left in the game
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eagles finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field as they were 11-of-22 from three
- North Dakota shot 44 percent from the field
- The game saw a total of 54 fouls as Winthrop was 29-for-43 at the free throw line and the Fighting Hawks were 23-of-32
- North Dakota won the battle on the glass 38-33, including a 15-8 edge on the offensive glass leading to 21 second chance points
- Winthrop had an assist on 16 of its first 19 made field goals
- North Dakota, which entered the game averaging 6.8 threes per game and shooting .296 behind the arc finished the game 13-of-33 from three
- Duncomb and Clouet led the Eagles with 21 points each while Daylen Berry reached double-figures with 10

- Logan Duncomb posted his fourth 20-point game of his career and Kody Clouet had his second 20-point game as an Eagle
- Winthrop had 11 threes in the game, making it four straight games with 10 or more and 10 total on the year
- Isaiah Wilson matched his career-best of six assists for the third time this season
- Clouet surpassed 1,300 career points in the game and now has 1,315
