Fairfax, Va. – Winthrop men's basketball fell 96-90 in a road matchup at George Mason, Friday night in non-conference action.

- Kory Mincy (29 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists)
- Jahari Long (22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists)

FIRST HALF
- Jahari Long buried a left wing three to open the scoring on the first possession of the game
- Kareem Rozier knocked down a trail three from the left wing to tie the game at 3-3
- Rozier then drove baseline and kicked out a pass to Daylen Berry on the right wing as he knocked down the three for a 6-3 advantage
- Ed Nnamoko knocked down a short jumper from the middle of the paint to put the Eagles on top 8-3
- Dola Daebayo buried a right wing three in transition to cut the Eagle lead to two points
- Malik Presley received a lead pass and finishes one-on-one at the rim to tie the game at 8-8
- Eagles were back on top 10-8 after Josh Meo followed a missed jumper from Rozier
- Then after a defensive stop the Eagles moved the ball in transition as Rozier buried a left wing three for a five point lead
- A straight away three from deep by Jahari Long gave the Patriots their first lead as his triple was part of an 11-0 run for a 19-13 lead with 11:18 to play in the half
- Patriots lead by six when Berry drained a three and then a Seifeldin Hendawy three pulled the Eagles within two points at 26-24 with 8:45 left
- Eagles came back to tie the game at 31-31 as the Eagles beat some pressure and Tommy Kamarad drained a left win three with 6:35 remaining
- George Mason led 41-40 with 3:14 to play in the half after Nick Ellington hit 1-of-2 free throws
- The Eagles regained the lead at 43-41 as Kody Clouet dropped in a right wing three
- Rozier followed by dropping in a floater to force a timeout by the Patriots
- Eagles went on top 47-41 on a basket inside by Logan Duncomb with 48 seconds left
- Winthrop took a 47-43 lead into halftime as they connected on 50 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes
SECOND HALF
- Patriots opened the scoring in the second half as Long dropped in a left wing three
- A straight away three by Adebayo tied the game at 49-49 but Duncomb responded with a jumper just in front of the free throw line to regain the lead
- Duncomb scored the first six points of the second half for the Eagles for a 53-49 lead
- A Josh Meo triple with 15:32 to play in the game gave Winthrop a 56-51 advantage
- Meo scored again with 13:23 as he got to the basket for a layup for a 58-53
- George Mason scored a quick five points to tie the game at 58-58 with 12:29 remaining
- Duncomb was called for a flagrant one foul with 11:59 to play as the Patriots took advantage to turn it into a 61-58 lead
- With 10:57 to play in the game Clouet made an extra pass to Meo in the corner as he dropped in a three and was fouled as he completed the four-point play for a 64-63 lead for the Eagles
- After George Mason tied the game at 64-64, Clouet responded by splashing in a straight away three
- A stick back by Emmanuel Kanga put the Patriots back in front at 68-67 with 7:43 to play
- Following an Eagle turnover, Long hit another three to put the Patriots up by four at 71-67
- A Clouet three with 6:24 to play brought the Eagles within a point at 72-71
- A second chance three by Kory Mincy from straight on put the Patriot in front 81-78 with 2:41 left in the game
- It was a one point game again as Berry knocked down two free throws with 2:26 remaining
- Mincy drained a contested straight away three to put George Mason on top 84-80 with just over two minutes left
- George Mason held off the Eagles over the final three minutes for the six point win
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eagles shot 29 percent from the floor in the second half and finished the game at 39 percent
- George Mason shot 46 percent from the floor after shooting 50 percent in the second half
- The two teams combined for 72 free throws as the Eagles were 25-for-29 (86%) and the Patriots were 31-of-43 (72%)
- Patriots dominated the glass with a 50-31 advantage, which included 16 offensive boards (Eagles had 11 on the offensive glass)
NOTABLES
- Eagles finished with five players in double-figures led by the 17 points from Meo and Berry as Duncomb had 16 followed by Clouet with 13 and Rozier chipped in with 12
- Winthrop made a season-high 13 threes and have now made 12 or more in five of the last seven games dating back to last season
