Jackson, Miss. – A 16-4 run to open the second half propelled Winthrop to an 80-62 victory at Jackson State, Sunday night in non-conference men's basketball action.

FIRST HALF
- Eagles won the tip and scored on the opening possession as Logan Duncomb scored inside
- Duncomb put the Eagles on top 4-2 after a couple of free throws and then stole the ball that led to a Daylen Berry finish on the break for an early four point advantage
- Duncomb scored six of the first 10 points to help the Eagles out to a 10-2 lead at the 16:28 mark, forcing a Jackson State timeout
- Jackson State gained the momentum shortly after the timeout, using a 15-0 run to take a 19-12 lead with just over nine minutes left in the half
- After beginning the game 1-for-8 from the floor, the Tigers connected on six of the next eight during the run
- The run came to an end as Tai Hamilton cleaned up a miss with a stick back with 8:56 to play in the half, trailing 19-14
- Eagles made it a one possession game after Josh Meo knocked down a short jumper in the lane and it was a one point game with 7:03 left after two free throws from Hamilton
- Winthrop regained the lead at the 6:35 mark as Seifeldin Hendawy buried a three for nine straight points
- The Eagles made it 12 consecutive points as Hendawy again stepped up and drained a three to lead 24-19
- The game was tied at 28-28 with 1:07 to play as Jackson State took a three point lead with 17 seconds left after a turn around jumper from Jayme Mitchell Jr.
- Kareem Rozier tied the game at the half as he dropped in a right wing three as time expired to make it 32-32 at the break
SECOND HALF
- Each team opened the second half dropping in threes as Mitchell Jr. gave the Tigers the that was short lived thanks to a three from Berry
- Rozier stole the ball on the other end and in transition he found Kody Clouet for three and the lead at 38-35
- Hamilton pushed the lead to five points after converting two free throws
- Following a Jackson State bucket by Kobe Butler, it was Hamilton again as Josh Meo dished and Hamilton scored on a reverse layup to lead 42-37
- Eagles pushed their lead to double-digits with 15:35 left in the game as Hamilton dove for a loose ball and on his back he kicked the ball to the corner to Meo who buried a three to lead 49-39
- A Tommy Kamarad steal started a fast break with numbers as Hendawy left the ball for Duncomb trailing and he flushed it with authority
- On the ensuing possession the Eagles held Jackson State to one shot and pushed the ball up the floor as Meo found Kamarad for three for a 10-0 run and a 15 point lead with 14:15 remaining
- Mitchell Jr. ended the run as he knocked down a three with just under 14 minutes left
- Tamarion Hoover buried a corner three to cut the Eagles lead to 11, but Hendawy answered seconds later with a three from the left wing to lead 63-49
- A block by Duncomb on the defensive end led to a another fast break for the Eagles as Hendawy flipped a pass to Rozier on the right win and he drilled it for a 66-49 advantage
- Winthrop's defense continued to lead to fast break points as Kamarad came away with a steal under the basket, pushed the ball up the court and dished to Ed Nnamoko for the left-handed finish and a 21 point lead with 7:46 to play
- Jackson State hit back-to-back threes from Dorian McMillian and Deyan Kolev to cut the Eagle lead to 15 points
- Pharrell Boyogueno answered the Kolev three with a triple of his own to lead 73-55 with 5:47 remaining
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles shot 58 percent from the floor in the second half, finishing at 48 percent for the game
- Eagle defense held the Tigers to 42 percent shooting for the game and 33 percent from three
- Winthrop connected on eight threes in the second half and finished the game 11-for-30
- The battle of the boards favored the Eagles 36-30 as they turned 11 offensive boards into 14 second chance points
- Winthrop dominated points in the paint 38-20 and fast break points 17-8
- Winthrop had a season-high 20 assists and committed just eight turnovers
- The Eagles had three players in double-figures and a total of 11 different players scored
NOTABLES
- The Eagles have now hit 11 or more threes in three consecutive games and four of the last five
- This was the 50th game under Mark Prosser the Eagles have hit 10 or more threes in a game and are now 39-11 in those contests
- Winthrop has now won four straight meetings with opponents from the SWAC
