ROCK HILL, S.C. -- After shooting just 13 percent in the opening quarter, the Winthrop University women's basketball team flipped the game on its head with a blistering second-quarter response and a late fourth-quarter push to beat Queens 75-69 on the homecoming.

First QuarterÂ
- The Eagles couldn't buy a bucket early, missing their first eight shots and not scoring a field goal until 7:28, when Amourie Porter finally got them on the board.Â
- Porter added another finish in the paint, but Winthrop shot 2-for-15 in the period and fell behind 21–10.Â
- Despite generating second-chance looks through Porter and Mya Pierfax, nothing dropped.Â
Second QuarterÂ
- Everything flipped for Winthrop once the second quarter opened as Ryiah Wilson hit a jumper at 9:26 to break the lid off the rim.Â
- Porter found her rhythm, knocking down another jumper at 6:25 as the Eagles started stringing together shots.Â
- Madison Ruff and Cori Lard hit back-to-back jumpers to cut the deficit to one possession.Â
- Ryiah Wilson buried a deep three with 21 seconds left, capping a 24-point quarter that dragged Winthrop right back into the game, down just 36-34 at the break.Â
Third QuarterÂ
- Tocarra Johnson opened the half with a layup at 9:36 to tie it 36-36, and Cori Lard followed with a three at 8:35 to give Winthrop the lead at 39-36.Â
- After Queens pushed back in front, Amourie Porter answered with a paint layup and then hit two free throws to keep the Eagles within striking distance.Â
- Mya Pierfax knocked down a three and then Naomi Wilson scored on a layup at 3:42 to pull Winthrop even at 48-48.Â
- Persais Williams scored twice in the lane, Lard added a layup, and Pierfax hit a free throw with eight seconds left to send Winthrop to the fourth up 55-53.Â
Fourth QuarterÂ
- Winthrop came out blazing with four straight layups: Pierfax at 8:54, Porter at 8:17, Pierfax again at 7:45 and Porter at 6:51, stretching the lead from 55-53 to 63-53.Â
- After a Queens free throw, Lard finished at the rim and Porter added a free throw at 4:23, keeping the Eagles in front 66-54.Â
- Queens clawed back with a series of scores, jumpers by Jermany Mapp, a three from Ana Barreto, another jumper from Breah Franks at 2:09 and a Mapp layup at 1:11, trimming the margin to 70-67.Â
- Porter calmly knocked down four free throws, and Pierfax added one more at 0:03, pushing the lead back out and closing the game at 75-69.Â

- Quarter Scoring: Winthrop (10–24–21–20), Queens (21–15–17–16).Â
- Winthrop shot 6-for-11 in the fourth quarter and added 8 free throws, closing the game with its most efficient frame.Â
- Queens relied heavily on the three early (6 made threes in the first half) but cooled in the second half as Winthrop tightened defensively.Â
- Winthrop's offense was led by Porter, Lard, Pierfax, Wilson, Ruff, and Johnson, who accounted for every Eagle field goal.Â
- Turnovers swung the game, Winthrop forced 6 steals in the second half and flipped several of them into layups during the 10-0 fourth-quarter run.Â
- The Eagles clawed back on the glass after a slow start, finishing with multiple offensive rebounds that extended key possessions in the second and fourth quarters.
