Big Second Half Leads Eagles Over Radford

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop scored three unanswered second half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over Radford, Saturday afternoon in Big South men's soccer action.

Game Recap
  • First 20 minutes were relatively quiet as Winthrop's first chance came in the 21st minute as Jayco Castro fired a shot from the edge of the box to the lower right corner that was saved by Ben Miller
  • Highlanders had their first chance in the 23rd minute as Devin Conway's shot on frame was saved by Jack Kilstrom
  • The game was scoreless at the half but Radford struck in the opening minutes of the second half to grab the lead
  • A turnover in the defensive third led to the goal as Lukas Kuca intercepted the pass and then beat Kilstrom off the dribble and placed the ball into the open net
  • In the 48th minute the Eagles equalized as Bernardo Pacheco's backheel to Sodai Koketsu who then passed to Ethan Marks in front for the first touch shot into the back of the net
  • Eagles grabbed the lead in the 82nd minute as Diomario Adamson put a rebound into the right corner
  • Adamson's first shot from inside the box was blocked by a defender but the rebound came back to him and then placed a shot into the right corner
  • In the 86th minute the Eagles got an insurance goal as Haruto Horii played a through ball to Jayco Castro and his shot over the keeper found the back of the net

  • This was the Eagles third straight win over Radford
  • Radford had a 14-10 advantage in shots while the Eagles had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal
  • Radford had 11 corners while the Eagles earned six
