Rock Hill, S.C. – Kelton Talford posted a double-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds to help lead Winthrop men's basketball to a 76-67 victory over Presbyterian College, Wednesday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

- Kory Mincy (20 points, 2 rebounds, assist, steal)
- Carl Parrish (13 points, 2 rebounds, assist)
- Kobe Stewart (12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals)
FIRST HALF
- Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Ryan Jolly drove and absorbed contact with the defender and finished at the rim
- Then on the break Jolly found Kelton Talford for the slam
- PC got on the board at the 17:10 mark as Kory Mincy swished a left wing three
- Talford put the Eagles up 6-3 after a short jumper in the lane
- It remained 6-3 for nearly two minutes before Talford scored again as he scored off a dish from Isaiah Wilson to lead 8-3 at the 14:37 mark
- It turned into a 7-0 run as the Eagles forced a turnover on a Nick Johnson steal that he pushed up court to Bryce Baker, who drained a right wing three to lead 11-3
- The Blue Hose ended the run as Triston Wilson had a dunk follow off a missed jumper by Jaylen Peterson and then Carl Parrish scored off a turnover on the break as Wilson provided the lead pass that Parrish finished on the break
- Eagles pushed their lead to eight at 18-10 with 10:10 left in the half after Logan Duncomb's hook shot
- PC scored a quick five points as Parrish hit a corner three and Peterson scored at the rim to make it a one possession game again
- Duncomb made it a 20-15 lead for the Eagles after two free throws and then PC pulled within a point at the 7:27 mark after a short jumper in the lane by Kaleb Scott
- Eagles answered with a corner three from Johnson as Baker made an extra pass for the open look
- PC took advantage of back-to-back turnovers by the Eagles to tie the game at 27-27 with 1:49 left in the half
- Paul Jones III put the Eagles back in front as he dropped in a left wing three with 55 seconds left
- Eagles scored the final five points to lead 32-27 at the break
SECOND HALF
- Talford scored the opening points of the second half with a tough bucket off glass
- The teams traded baskets over the first three minutes as the Eagles led 38-33 at the 17:00 mark
- Eagles built a six point lead after a Talford bucket inside with 12:19 left
- Teams continued to go back-and-forth over the next three minutes as the Eagles went up by as much as seven in that span but a drive and score by Mincy made it a one possession game at 53-50
- Blue Hose took the lead at 55-53 on a second-chance three as Mincy buried it from the right wing
- The lead didn't last long as the Eagles regained the lead on the next possession as Johnson scored off the drive with an And-1 as he made the free throw to complete the three-point play to lead 56-55
- After getting a defensive stop Talford went to work on the offensive glass as he boarded a missed three by K.J. Doucet and scored with the left hand
- PC tied the game on the next possession as Kobe Stewart found Parrish in the left corner for three
- With 3:24 to play in the game, Talford boarded a blocked shot on the offensive glass and was fouled
- PC was then whistled for a technical as Kasen Harrison stepped in and hit 1-of-2 before Talford took to the free throw line and made both to lead 65-62
- After getting a defensive stop Doucet scored in the post, spinning off the defender to his left and scoring off glass for a five point advantage
- Out of a PC timeout, Mincy scored off a drive to cut the Winthrop lead to 67-64 with 2:33 remaining
- On the ensuing possession, Harrison dished to Talford who finished with an And-1
- Talford made the free throw to complete the three-point play for a 70-64 lead
- That started a 7-0 run in a 62-second span as Johnson posted up and finished with a short jumper followed by a Talford dunk off the break to lead 74-64 with 1:07 to play
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eagles finished the game shooting 46 percent while holding PC to 40 percent
- Winthrop finished 19-for-26 at the foul line (73%) while the Blue Hose were 10-of-13 at the line
- The rebounding battle favored the Eagles 42-33 and finished with 13 offensive rebounds that led to 15 points
- Eagles had a 42-32 advantage in the paint and 13-10 edge in fast break points
- Kelton Talford's seventh double-double of the season of 25 points, 10 rebounds led the Eagles in both categories
- Doucet finished with 12 points while Johnson chipped in with 10
- The Eagles outscored the Blue Hose 16-5 over the final 4:18 of the game
- Johnson finished with four steals, which ties his career-best in a single-game
NOTABLES
- Eagles remain unbeaten at the Winthrop Coliseum this season at 10-0 as they earned a 10th straight home win on the season and are 13-1 overall in home games
- Winthrop has now won 11 of the last 12 meetings and 21 of the last 23 meetings with the Blue Hose
- Doucet's 12 points pushed him past 1,600 career points as he now has 1,611 in his career
- Talford is now five points away from 1,700 career points, which has only been accomplished by three Eagles in program history
