Eagles Fall At Charleston Southern

Charleston, S.C. – Winthrop dropped their second straight contest at Charleston Southern Wednesday night.

How it Happened
 
First Quarter | Winthrop trailed 9-0 three minutes into the game before Mya Pierfax's jumper at the 6:07 mark got the Eagles on the board. In a span of four minutes, the Buccaneers went on a 12-4 run to take a 21-6 lead with 1:52 left in the frame. Winthrop then ended the quarter by scoring five of the next six points to trail 22-11.
 
Second Quarter | Two baskets by Amourie Porter in two minutes cut the deficit to 22-15 before Charleston Southern drained two more from deep to up their margin to 11 at 28-17 with 5:28 remaining. Ciara Harris's immediate layup then made the deficit single digits again. The Buccaneers answered with a basket down low coming out of a timeout, but so did the Eagles, as Ronaltha Marc scored while getting fouled. The ensuing free throw made it an eight-point game with four minutes left. Charleston Southern maintained a lead ranging from nine to 12 points for the rest of the way as the Buccaneers would go on to lead 40-28 at the break.
 
Third Quarter | Charleston Southern opened the second half with a triple and three baskets to go up 19 at 49-30 at the 5:45 mark. The Eagles answered with four quick points but another deep shot by the Buccaneers put the home team ahead by 18. Winthrop would score 10 more points in the stanza as Charleston Southern led 58-44 after 30 minutes of play.
 
Fourth Quarter | Both teams combined for only eight points in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. This gave Charleston Southern a 62-48 lead. The Buccaneers then scored 16 of the next 18 points to up their margin to 78-50 with 1:11 left in the game. They also held Winthrop scoreless in the final four minutes.
