How it Happened
First Quarter | Longwood jumped out to an 18-1 lead four minutes into the contest, forcing time to be called by the Eagles.
Ronaltha Marc's layup at the 4:54 mark of the frame represented Winthrop's first field goal of the game. The Eagles would then be held without a field goal for the next four and half minutes while Longwood outscored Winthrop by a slim 4-2 margin to restore their 17-point lead at 22-5 with 3:54 remaining in the quarter. Marc nailed a jumper with 21 seconds to go but the Lancers hit a triple at the buzzer to give them a 25-7 lead at the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter | Longwood started the second quarter with a three-pointer and two baskets to increase their margin to 25 at the 7:21 mark. The Eagles did score four of the next six points to make it 34-11 with 5:54 left. Neither team then scored for the next three minutes after that. The two teams wrapped up the half by splitting the next eight points to make the score 38-16 in favor of Longwood.
Third Quarter | Winthrop outscored the Lancers 22-11 in the first eight minutes of the third quarter to trail 49-36.
Amourie Porter had nine of the Eagles 22 points in those first six minutes. But Longwood would finish the quarter by outscoring Winthrop 6-4 to take a 55-42 lead entering the fourth.
Fourth Quarter | The first seven minutes were nearly even in terms of scoring as Longwood took a 69-55 lead at the 3:06 mark as Longwood outscored Winthrop by a single point, 14-13. The Lancers scored the next eight points to lead by 22 at 77-55 nearly two minutes later. The Eagles would then hit four free throws to account for the final margin.
