Eagles Fall At Nationally-Ranked N.C. State Tuesday Evening

Raleigh, N.C. – Winthrop men's soccer suffered a 7-0 loss at 24th-ranked North Carolina State, Tuesday evening.

Game Recap
  • The Wolfpack tested Andres Manzano Garcia in the 3rd minute, but he was there for the save
  • It was the Eagles that applied the majority of pressure in the early going as Caleb Bennett had the first shot but missed over the top right corner
  • In the 6th minute Ryan Armijo fired a shot that missed the target after being deflected over for a corner
  • In the 7th minute Sodai Koketsu had a shot that was off target
  • In the 9th minute Bruno Riveron Sagrero put a shot on target but Enzo Carvalho made the save
  • N.C. State grabbed the moment and in the 11th minute pinged a shot off the crossbar
  • Wolfpack broke through in the 26th minute as Taig Healy found the back of the net
  • Donavan Phillip scored in the 32nd minute after finishing a shot that was off the post from a shot by Hakim Karamoko
  • Just before the half the Wolfpack grabbed a 3-0 advantage on a goal by Drew Lovelace
  • N.C. State found four more goals in the second half
  • Eagles tried to spoil the shutout with some late pressure as Bernardo Pacheco and Jake Gusler forcing saves by Carvalho

  • The Wolfpack finished with a 29-10 advantage in shot and 13-4 in shots on goal
  • Wolfpack had 10 corners and the Eagles finished with five

Winthrop remains on the road for its next contest as it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, Sept. 14 to take on Wofford College at 1 p.m.
