Eagles Fall At UNF Thursday Night

Jacksonville, Fla. – Winthrop men's soccer suffered a 3-1 loss at North Florida, Thursday night.

Game Recap
  • In the 7th minute Rodrigo Ferreira nearly caught the goalkeeper off guard as he fired a shot from about 30 yards out that just missed wide left
  • In the 40th minute, UNF took the lead off a set piece
  • Luc Granitur took the corner kick for the Ospreys and it was redirected at the near post by Jaxon Reinhardt, took a slight deflection through traffic and squeezed into the lower right corner
  • Some ball pressure late in the first half paid off for the Eagles as Caleb Swenson put his body in the way of the keeper's effort to play a long ball and the pass hit Swenson around the edge of the 18 and rolled into the open goal
  • Ospreys caught a break in the 46th minute when Reinhardt served a ball in front that deflected off a Winthrop defender and past the keeper for a 2-1 advantage
  • UNF took a two-goal advantage in the 62nd minute when Reinhard headed home a cross from Ethan Ash
  • Rodrigo Ferreira received a throw in in the offensive third and flicked the ball by a defender and ripped a shot on frame from the edge of the box out wide by the keeper was there for the save
  • In the 83rd minute the Ricardo Ferreira headed a corner just over the bar

Foot Notes
  • For the games the total shots were event at 10-10 while the Eagles had an edge in shots on goal 4-3
  • The two teams combined for 10 corners, each team earning five in the match

The Eagles are back in action on the road Sunday evening (Sept. 1) at 6 p.m. to face Jacksonville.
