Game Recap
- In the 16th minute Jessica Gengler chased down a long ball in the box and fired a shot from a tight angle, but Zoe Santos was there for the save at the near post
- In the 32nd minute Mossi Avila-Gutierrez slipped a ball behind the defense in the box as Laura Bennett ran on and she tried to beat the keeper but Santos was there for the save
- In the 33rd minute Abbie McCrea set up Avila-Guitierrez in the box toward goal but just as she was about to take the shot a Bulldog defender tackled the ball away for a corner
- The Bulldogs struck first in the 39th minute off a throw-in
- Chloe Washington received the throw and turned toward the middle of the field as she passed the ball to Ariana Paez who played a one touch to Elisa Fuentes open in the box
- Fuentes then played a ball on the ground across the mouth of goal to the back post where Washington ran on and slotted a shot into the lower right corner
- In the 56th minute the Eagles drew a foul just outside the box, just off center to the right of the keeper
- Jessica Gengler took the free kick and struck the ball well but it hit the wall and bounced back toward the center of the field
- Adelle Pruitt settled the ball and fired a shot from about 30 yards out that was wide to the right
- Eagles had another good chance in the 70th minute as Pruitt served a corner right in front of the spot as Cordella McIntosh jumped and just sent a head over the crossbar
- A bad pass in the 71st minute was chased down by Washington as she dribbled into the box and placed a shot into the lower right corner for a two goal advantage
- In the 82nd minute Balliet was sent free into space and as she approached the 18 she fired a shot that was hit well but right at Santos for the save
Notables
- The Eagles are now 2-1-1 in their last four season openers
- Senior Marianella Gillum appeared in her 50th game as an Eagle
- Shots were nearly even as The Citadel had a 14-13 edge
- Bulldogs also had a slight edge in shots on goal (5-4) and corners (6-4)
Looking Ahead
Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. when they take on Southern Wesleyan in the home opener.
