Clemson, S.C. – Winthrop softball battled nationally-ranked Clemson in a 4-0 loss Tuesday evening at McWhorter Stadium.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashton VanHouse led off the game with a single and then stole second to get into scoring position with one out but was stranded
- In the top of the second inning, Peyton Rivas drew a two-out walk and then Grayson Buckner reached on an error as Rivas raced to third to put runners at the corners
- Paige Rivas put the ball in play but the threat ended with a fly out to center
- Clemson took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Julia Knowler led off with a single to right center
- The Tigers eventually loaded the bases with two outs after JoJo Hyatt drew a walk
- A defensive miscue led to two runs as Arielle Oda reached safely on the error and two runs scored
- The next batter singled up the middle as Clemson took a 4-0 lead
- Eagles tried to rally with two outs in the seventh as Mackenzie Smith reached on an error followed by a single from VanHouse but were stranded
EXTRA BASES
- Temple extended her streak of reaching base to seven straight games after a single in the sixth inning
- VanHouse finished with two hits, her 9th multi-hit game of the season
- Eagles finished with eight runners left on base
- VanHouse stole her 17th base of the season and 65th of her career as she's now two back of 3rd on the all-time list

Winthrop gets back to action Apr. 19-20 as it welcomes Charleston Southern to Terry Field for a Big South Conference series. The series begins on Friday, Apr. 19 at 4 p.m. with a single-game and concludes on Saturday, Apr. 20 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
