Farmville, Va. – Winthrop dropped a doubleheader at Longwood Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell 2-0 in the opening game before falling 6-3 in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Lancers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second
- Emily Vinson led off the inning with a triple to right center and after two straight outs scored on a passed ball
- Eagles had a good chance to get on the board in the fourth as Ashton VanHouse singled up the middle to get things started
- VanHouse was sacrificed to second and with two outs Megan Powell walked to put two on but Ansley Lee grounded out to short to end the threat
- Longwood added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth as Avery Miller reached on an infield single with two outs and pinch-runner Peyton Coleman stole second and then scored on a double by Maggie Hiatt
- In the top of the fifth Emma Jackson drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Peyton Rivas
- Jackson moved to third on a wild pitch with two outs, but was left stranded
- Heading into the seventh trailing 2-0, Lee led off with a single down the left field line to put the tying run at the plate
Game 2
- Longwood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Kayley Devivi hit a two-out home run to left center
- Eagled took a one run lead in the top of the second as KaDedra Temple got things going with a single
- Emma Jackson followed with a double to right field, scoring Temple from first to tie the game
- Two batters later Powell singled to put runners at the corners
- Peyton Rivas followed with an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead
- Longwood regained the lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out RBI single from Lauren Taylor and Devivi drew a bases loaded walk to lead 3-2
- Winthrop tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third as Temple hit a one-out home run to right
- The Lancers regained the lead at 5-3 on a two-run double from Avery Drake in the bottom of the third
- Powell led off the fourth with a single and Grayson Buckner singled with one out to put runners at the corners but were left stranded
- In the top of the sixth Powell drew a leadoff walk and Mackenzie Smith followed with a single
- Lancers turned a double play and Smith was caught stealing to end the inning
EXTRA BASES
- Temple extended her hitting streak to five games
- Reese Basinger had four strikeouts in her start in the first game and passed Madyson Watson to move into 7th all-time in total strikeouts (now trails 6th place by 16)
- VanHouse's single in the fourth inning of the first game was the 100th hit for her career
