Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop fell on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon to the Furman Paladins by a final score of 16-9. Winthrop moves to 1-12 and 1-5 in the Big South with two regular-season games remaining, both on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visiting Paladins led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter, with the two Eagle goals being scored by Lexi Johnson and Ellie Dutton.
- The Eagles scored the first three goals of the second quarter to take a 4-5 lead with 6:07 left until the break.
- Two of the goals were by Katie Witmer, the second coming on the man-up with 6:07 to go.
- Furman then scored the next nine goals to take a 13-5 lead with 13:53 left in the game.
- Winthrop outscored Furman 4-3 the rest of the way to account for the final margin.
