Eagles Defeat Wofford 6-1 Wednesday Night

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop pounded out 12 hits in a 6-1 victory over Wofford, Wednesday evening in non-conference softball action.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, KaDedra Temple doubled down the right field line with one out
  • Two batters later Kaylyn Little reached on an error after a grounder to third and Temple raced around to score for a 1-0 lead
  • In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles grabbed a 2-0 lead
  • Ashton VanHouse singled with one out and Reese Basinger followed with a single
  • With two outs, Temple came through with a single to score VanHouse
  • Eagles responded right back in the bottom of the sixth as Peyton Rivas led off with a single and then stole second
  • Emmy Cardenas came in to pinch-hit and delivered with an RBI single through the right side as Peyton Rivas raced home from second
  • That jump started what turned out to be a four-run inning
  • Basinger, Temple and Megan Powell all added RBI singles to push the lead to 6-1

EXTRA BASES
  • Basinger extended her hitting streak to eight straight games with her 10th multi-hit game of the season
  • VanHouse also extended her hitting streak which is now at six straight
  • Temple had her second three-hit game of the season and now has 13 hits in the last eight games
  • Paige Rivas' stolen base was the 22nd of the season and 62nd of her career, now two behind VanHouse for 4th all-time

ON DECK
Winthrop is back on the road as it heads to Farmville, Va. Apr. 13-14 to take on Longwood. The series begins Saturday, Apr. 13 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single-game on Sunday, Apr. 14 at 1 p.m.
