Statesboro, Ga. – Winthrop softball fell 8-0 to Buffalo Saturday evening on the second day of the Hail Southern Classic.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Buffalo grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Tianna Williams doubled to right with one out
- Lyla Ambrose was hit by a pitch and then a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position
- Sara Kelly plated Williams with a sacrifice fly to center
- In the bottom of the third, Madison Fernimen drew a leadoff walk on a full count and then Abbey Nagel singled through the right side
- Alexis Lycyshyn stepped in and hit the first pitch over the fence in center for a 4-0 lead
- It was just the second home run yielded by Reese Basinger in 76 innings pitched this season
- Mackenzie Smith relieved Basinger and issued a walk on a full count before giving up an RBI single to Lily Lauck
- Smith then retired the next three batters to end the inning
- Eagles tried to respond in the top of the fourth as Grayson Buckner drew a leadoff walk, but Ansley Lee grounded in a double play
- Eagles stuck with it as Smith singled to left field and then Bailey Warren doubled to right center to put two runners in scoring position with two away
- Peyton Rivas put the ball in play but the threat ended on a fly out to left
- The Bulls added two more runs in the fourth and had a chance to end the game in the fifth, but freshman Emily Cardenas worked out of a bases loaded jam with one away to extend the game
EXTRA BASES
- Paige Rivas moved into 35th on the all-time hit list as she was 1-for-3 in the game and now has 125 as an Eagle

Winthrop will wrap-up the weekend on Sunday, Mar. 10 as it will take on Georgia Southern at 11:30 a.m.
