Rock Hill, S.C. – Seven different Eagles put the ball in the back of a net in a home loss to Stonehill by a final score of 26-19 on Wednesday afternoon, wrapping up a season-high three-game home stand for the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was tied at six at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter, with Katie Witmer scoring three of the Winthrop goals.
- Stonehill scored three straight to lead 9-6 but Claire Witmer scored with one second on the clock to leave Winthrop down 9-7 at the end of the frame.
- Winthrop scored two of the first three goals to start the second quarter, cutting the lead to 10-9 after Lexi Johnson's score on the man-up with 11:56 remaining.
- But the visitors scored seven of the next nine to take a 17-11 heading into the locker room.
- The Sky Hawks picked up right where they left off to start the second half, scoring eight of the next 13 goals to take their largest lead of the game at 25-16 with 10:16 left in the fourth quarter.
- The five goals scored by the Eagles during this stretch were one each by Katie Witmer, Claire Witmer and Scarlet Cifarelli and two more by Johnson.
- Winthrop scored three of the final four goals in the last nine minutes, with Katie Witmer scoring twice.
