Berkeley, Calif. – Winthrop fell at California by a final score of 14-3 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie Witmer got the Eagles on the board first on the man-up one minute in.
- Cal scored the next three goals, leading by this same score at the end of the first quarter.
- Neither team scored for half of the second quarter until the Golden Bears found the back of the net at the 7:40 mark.
- Cal scored again three minutes later to extend their lead to four and led 5-1 at the break.
- The home standing Golden Bears scored the first three goals of the third quarter.
- Ellie Dutton briefly ended the Cal run with a goal of her own with 6:31 left in the frame, cutting the lead to six.
- However, Cal answered on the next possession to take their lead back to seven.
- The Golden Bears would lead 10-2 at the end of the third quarter.
- Cal scored the first goal early in the fourth quarter but Erin Whitaker got her first goal of the afternoon on the next Eagle possession.
- The Golden Bears scored three more times in the frame to end the day.
