Davis, Calif. – Winthrop ended non-conference competition with a loss at Cal-Davis by a final score of 18-7 on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winthrop jumped out to a 2-0 lead nearly five minutes in on goals by Gabby Pierpont and Scarlet Cifarelli.
- The Aggies got on the board a minute after Cifarelli's goal.
- Erin Whitaker restored Winthrop's two-goal lead on the man-up at the 7:54 mark.
- Cal-Davis answered with three straight goals, the third coming with 1:59 left in the quarter.
- Pierpont knotted her second goal of the contest at the 1:06 mark, tying the score at four.
- This would remain the score at the end of the frame.
- The Aggies took a 5-4 lead at the 12:35 mark of the second quarter and then went up by three at 7-4 with nearly eight minutes left.
- Ellie Dutton got on the stat sheet at the 6:33 mark to make it a two-goal affair.
- But Cal-Davis responded with three straight goals to lead 10-5 at the half.
- The Aggies scored the first two of the second half before Dutton notched her second goal of the day with seven minutes left in the third quarter.
- Cal-Davis scored again to get their margin back up to seven three minutes later and led 13-6 to start the fourth quarter.
- The Aggies scored five more goals.
- Lexi Johnson scored with four seconds remaining on a free-position attempt.

- The two teams were even in saves, 12-12.
- Winthrop won 14 draw controls to Cal-Davis's 13.
- Johnson led the Eagles with five shots.
- Madison Mayer won seven draw controls to lead Winthrop.
