Rock Hill, S.C. –Coming off opening Big South play with a 13-8 home win over Gardner-Webb Wednesday afternoon and securing their first win of the season, the Winthrop women's lacrosse program (1-7, 1-0 Big South) aims for their second straight win by heading to Radford to play against the Highlanders (3-7, 0-1 Big South).

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS RADFORD
This is the 9^th meeting between the Eagles and the Highlanders with Winthrop leading the series 6-2. Gardner-Webb has won the last two of the last three meetings after Winthrop had won the first five matchups. The first meeting was on Mar. 26, 2016 with Winthrop winning 26-5 in Radford. The most recent meeting took place in Radford last season, with the Highlanders winning 17-7 on Apr. 15. Winthrop will be seeking their first win in the series since 2022, a 13-10 margin in Rock Hill on Apr. 9.
 
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES

• Winthrop is coming off a 4-12 (1-8 Big South) record in 2023. The Eagles welcome nine newcomers to the squad and assistant coaches Leigh Olson and Nick Anagnostis. The Eagles also return 22 players, five of whom played in all 16 contests last season.
• Seniors Ellie Dutton, Grayson McKenzie and Claire Witmer return as Winthrop's top-three offensive pieces, as Dutton and McKenzie both led the Eagles in goals with 25 while Witmer found the back of the net on 21 occasions.
• Sophomore Scarlet Cifarelli led the Eagles in assists last season with 16. Cifarelli also tacked on 16 goals on 25 shots on goal.
• The Eagles were ranked eighth in the Big South preseason poll and are in their third season under head coach Kara Concheck. Concheck is Winthrop's third head coach in program history.
• Winthrop is fourth in the Big South in shot percentage with .406 and leads the conference in woman-up goals per game with 1.75.
• Dutton leads the Eagles in goals with 13.
• Cifarelli leads the Eagles in assists with six
• Katie Witmer leads the Eagles in shots on goal with 24.
• Madison Mayer leads the Eagles in draw controls with 32. She is also second in the conference in this category.
• Mayer leads the Eagles in caused turnovers with nine.
• Emma Calhoun leads the Eagles in groundballs with 19.
• She is also fifth in the conference in saves per game with eight.

 LAST TIME OUT

• Winthrop used a fast start to open Big South play with a home win over Gardner-Webb 13-8 on Wednesday afternoon, securing their first win of the season.
• Emily Hollinger and Mayer scored their first collegiate goals.
• Claire Witmer led the Eagles with four goals on the day.
• Witmer also had five shots on goal.
• Mayer forced three turnovers and won three draw controls.
• Seven different Eagles scored in the contest.
• Winthrop dominated in shots on goal, 27-15, a season-high for the Eagles.
• Winthrop nabbed 21 groundballs to GW's 19, also a season-high.
• Winthrop won 14 draw controls to GW's 10.
• Winthrop had a season-high eight assists.
