Rock Hill, S.C. – KaDedra Temple's walk-off single gave Winthrop softball a 2-1 victory at home in the first game of a three-game Big South series with Gardner-Webb on Saturday night.

WHAT HAPPENED
- With Jailyn Tineo at third with two outs to start the game, Araceli Pesquiera grounded out to end the inning.
- The Eagles loaded the bases in their half of the first with two outs after Ansley Lee singled but Kaylyn Little struck out.
- Winthrop struck first in the third when a Reese Basinger single with two out brought in Paige Rivas all the way from second base.
- Down to their last out, Gardner-Webb tied the game with two outs in the seventh when Adrienne Visintine singled to left field to drive in Maure Pendleton.
- Megan Powell led off the bottom of the inning with a double to right center field to put the Eagles in position to win the game.
- Ashley Wood pinch ran for Powell after the play.
- Lily Stump grounded out on the next play but Wood advanced to third.
- Temple singled to third base and Wood scored on an error by Pesquiera to win the game.
EXTRA BASES
Basinger pitched the entire game, recording six strikeouts and now has 425 career strikeouts, good for 8th on the all-time list.

Winthrop faces Gardner-Webb in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon slated for 1 p.m. The series will wrap-up with the second game scheduled for 3 p.m.
