Atlanta, Ga. – Winthrop softball opened the day with a 4-3 loss to Tennessee Tech in eight innings and a 4-1 loss to Harvard on day one of the Bob Heck Classic on Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Tennessee Tech
- Tennessee Tech took an early lead in the top of the first as the leadoff batter reached on an error
- After Mac Fitzgerald stole second, she was sacrificed to third and scored on a wild pitch
- In the second inning, Tennessee Tech doubled its lead at 2-0 as Brooklyn Stewart doubled to right center to set the table
- After moving to third on a ground out, Stewart scored on a single from Olivia Evans
- Eagles looked to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as Emma Jackson led off with a double to left center but was stranded
- In the third inning Reese Basinger had a leadoff single followed by Paige Rivas drawing a walk
- Ashton VanHouse moved both runners in scoring position with a sacrifice
- After Asnley Lee walked to load the bases, Jacksons stepped in and pulled one down the left field line for a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2
- Golden Eagles regained the lead in the top of the 5th as Carmen Betts came through with a two-out RBI single
- Eagles forced extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh as Jackson came through again
- VanHouse singled to lead off and two batters later moved to second on a ground out
- Jackson came up and hit her third double of the game, driving home VanHouse to tie the game
- With the international tie breaker rule in place, the Golden Eagles came through with a one out single to score Abby Shoulders who was placed on second for a 4-3 lead
- KaDedra Temple was placed on second and moved to third on a sacrifice by Grayson Buckner , but the Eagles were unable to get her home as Peyton Bryden popped out on a full count and Basinger grounded out
vs. Harvard
- Eagles took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first
- Paige Rivas drew a leadoff walk and stole second to get into scoring position
- After a groundout moved Rivas to third, Jackson came through with a double to right to plate Rivas
- Eagles threatened in the fifth as Basinger and Buckner led off with back-to-back singles but were left stranded
- Harvard took a 4-1 lead in the sixth behind three home runs from Alex Wohr, Sophie Sun and Finley Payne
EXTRA BASES
- Emma Jackson had three doubles in the game vs. Tennessee Tech and had four doubles total on the day
- Jackson is the first Eagle with three doubles in a game since Lisa Kingsmore had three vs. Fairfield on Mar. 14, 2008
- Jackson has now hit safely in five straight games, the longest current streak on the team
ON DECK
The Eagles are back at it on Sunday, Mar. 3 as they'll take on Harvard at 11:30 a.m. and Georgia State at 4:30 p.m.
