Clinton, S.C.. – Winthrop dropped a hard fought contest in a 3-2 loss in extra innings at Presbyterian College, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashton VanHouse drew a one out walk in the top of the first and stole second to get into scoring position and then stole third but was left stranded
- Ansley Lee drew a leadoff walk in the second and was replaced by pinch-runner Peyton Rivas
- Peyton Rivas stole second and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Mackenzie Smith
- KaDedra Temple was hit by a pitch and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position but the Eagles were unable to take advantage
- In the top of the fourth, Peyton Rivas singled down the third base line with one out
- Smith followed with a bloop single to center field to get two runners on
- After a foul out by Temple, Lily Stump drew a walk to load the bases but the Eagles were unable to push a run across as Reese Basinger grounded to first for the third out
- In the bottom of the fifth inning the Blue Hose grabbed a lead courtesy of a couple of fielding miscues by the Eagles
- In the top of the seventh with one out, pinch-hitter Kaylyn Little doubled to left center
- Stump re-entered for Little at second base and came around to score on a double to center field off the bat of Reese Basinger to make it a one run game
- Two batters later VanHouse came through with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game
- Megan Powell nearly gave Winthrop a 4-2 lead as she just hit a home run left of the foul pole
- Powell ended up putting the ball in play but grounded out to second
- PC took the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth on a walk-off single from Kendall Owens
EXTRA BASES
- Smith extended her hitting streak to seven games, which is the longest by an Eagle this season and her career-best streak
- Basinger recorded five strikeouts (no walks) in the game and now has 411 career strikeouts, two behind 8th on the all-time list
- In what will continue to be a back-and-forth affair on the season, VanHouse had two steals on the day and moved past Paige Rivas into 3rd all-time with 59 (Paige Rivas has 58)

Winthrop returns home for a midweek contest on Wednesday, Mar. 20 as it will host Queens in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
