Spartanburg, S.C.. – Winthrop softball pounded out a season-high in hits and runs on its way to an 11-3 victory at Wofford, Wednesday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first
- Paige Rivas drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on an Ashton VanHouse single to right
- Megan Powell hit a ball to right field that moved VanHouse to second and Rivas came around to score on the play
- With two outs and the bases loaded, Peyton Bryden grounded to short but the ball was misplayed and all of the runners were safe for a 2-0 lead
- KaDedra Temple followed with a single to right, scoring Grayson Buckner
- Reese Basinger hit a two-run single to score Bryden and Ansley Lee for the five run lead
- Wofford got a run back in the bottom of the first as Bergan Needles reached on an error with one out and then pinch-hitter Megan Towery reached on an error as Needles came around to score on the play
- Eagles added two more runs in the top of the third as Mackenzie Smith led off with a single
- After being sacrificed to second by Bryden, Temple doubled to right to plate Smith for a 7-1 lead
- After Basinger singled to the pitcher to put runners at the corners, Paige Rivas came through with an RBI single to left to lead 7-1
- In the top of the fourth, Buckner singled up the middle to lead off and then moved to second on a single to left center by Lee
- Buckner stole third to put runners at the corners and then scored on a single to left by Smith
- Terriers added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a five-run game as Olivia Lenzen and Kaytlin Greenwood provided RBI singles
- Eagles added three more runs in the sixth and Basinger held Wofford in check in the bottom half of the inning to end the game in six innings
EXTRA BASES
- Winthrop had a season-high in runs (11) and hits (17)
- Ashton VanHouse, Buckner and Basinger all had their first three-hit games of the season
- Eagles had six different players with multiple hits and eight different players scored a run
- The 17 hits were the most in a game since the Eagles had 21 at Radford on Apr. 6, 2019 in the first game of a doubleheader
- Smith extended her hitting streak to four games, the top current streak on the team
