Women's Hoops Hosts Longwood For "Think Pink" Game Saturday

Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a loss at Charleston Southern by a final score of 65-50 on Wednesday night, Winthrop women's basketball (10-13, 4-6 Big South) looks to bounce back Saturday afternoon as the Eagles host the Longwood Lancers.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS LONGWOOD
This is the 32nd meeting between the Eagles and the Lancers, with Winthrop leading the series, 18-13. The Eagles won both contests last year and has won three straight in the series, including the most recent contest, a 58-53 win on the road on Jan. 3, 2024. The first meeting between the two teams was on Feb. 10, 1979, with Winthrop falling 64-62 on the road. The Eagles responded with a 51-48 win on the road the next season on Feb. 7, 1980 to start a streak of winning 10 of the next 14 meetings. Longwood then won eight of the next 13 meetings before Winthrop took both games from the Lancers last season.

BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
  • Marissa Gasaway-Big South Player of the Week (Dec. 4)
  • Averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games.
  • Opened the week with a career-high 20 points and 16 rebounds in an overtime setback to UNC Wilmington, her second double-double of the season.
  • Nearly notched another double-double against Queens as she finished with 19 points and nine rebounds.
  • She shot 50.0 percent from the floor (13-of-16) and 13-of-17 from the free throw line (76.5 percent) for the week.
