Durham, N.C. – Winthrop lost their second contest of the young 2024 season with a 25-5 final score to the Duke Blue Devils on the road on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score was 3-2 in favor of Duke in the first six minutes of the contest, with Lexi Johnson and Claire Witmer scoring the two early goals for the Eagles.
- The Blue Devils scored the next seven goals.
- Gabby Pierpont stopped the Duke run with a goal at the 1:10 mark of the first quarter.
- Duke scored the first five goals of the second quarter.
- Erin Whitaker scored with exactly five minutes left in the frame.
- Duke put two more goals in the back of the net to make the score 17-4 at the half.
- The Blue Devils scored eight times in the second half while Winthrop scored once.
