Rock Hill, S.C. – Playing for the first time in 10 days, Winthrop had a very good second half despite a loss to Queens by a final score of 13-8 at home on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Queens scored the first five goals before Katie Witmer got the Eagles on the board on the man-up at the 3:44 mark of the first quarter.
• The Royals scored the next three goals but Johnson scored just before the half to make the score 8-2 in favor of Queens.
• Then down 9-2 nearly four minutes into the 2^nd half, Winthrop outscored the visitors 6-4 the rest of the way.
• Ellie Dutton scored her first two goals of the year at the 7:52 and 3:47 marks of the third quarter and Johnson scored her second of the game a minute later on the man-up, cutting the score to 10-5.
• Queens answered with a goal a few seconds into the fourth quarter only to have Grace Taylor make it a five-goal game again 15 seconds later. This was her first goal of the season.
• The visitors responded with two more goals but Johnson wrapped up the scoring for both teams with two of her own, her fourth and final tally of the night coming on the man-up with 3:07 left in the contest.

NOTABLES (TEAM)

• Winthrop moves to 100-97 all-time as a program.
• Winthrop outscored Queens 6-5 in the second half.
• Lexi Johnson led the Eagles in goals with four and shots on goal with six.
• Madison Mayer led the Eagles in groundballs with four and draw controls with five.
• The two teams were even in saves, 10-10.
• Winthrop won 14 draw controls to 10 for the Royals.
