Box Score 2 Greensboro, N.C. – After dropping the first game of the doubleheader 6-1 to UNC Greensboro, Winthrop softball bounced back to take the nightcap with a 5-4 win in extra innings, Wednesday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Eagles grabbed the lead in the top of the first as Paige Rivas got things going with a single to center
- With one out, Rivas stole second and then two batters later stole third as Ansley Lee was issued a walk
- KaDedrat Temple stood in and delivered a single through the right side as Rivas came across for the 1-0 lead
- Spartans grabbed a 2-1 lead in they drew back-to-back bases loaded walks with two outs
- UNCG added another run in the fourth on a wild pitch and then tacked on three more in the sixth
- Eagles finished with six hits in the game and left five runners stranded
Game 2
- Eagles grabbed the lead first for the second straight game with two runs in the second
- Lee singled with one out and moved to second when Aspen King singled to right
- Emma Roberson came in to pinch-run for Lee at second and scored when Peyton Bryden delivered a double down the right first base line
- King also scored on the play for the 2-0 lead
- Spartans grabbed a 4-2 lead in the fifth when Jorde Chatrand hit a two-out grand slam to left center
- In the top of the seventh inning, Paige Rivas drew a leadoff walk but was out at second on a force out after Ashton VanHouse reached on a fielder's choice
- With two outs, Kaylyn Little singled down the left field line and advanced to second on the throw to put two runners in scoring position
- Grayson Buckner stepped up and singled down the right field two score both and tie the game
- In the top of the eighth, Lilly Stump was placed on second Bailey Warren was hit by a pitch to put two on
- Bryden hit into a force out as Stump was out at third
- Paige Rivas walked to load the bases and after a pitching change, Emma Jackson drew a walk to take the 5-4 lead
- UNCG had the tying and winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth but Reese Basinger caught the batter looking at strike three for the final out
EXTRA BASES
- Paige Rivas extended her hitting streak to six games before it came to an end in the second game of the doubleheader as she was 0-for-2 with three walks
- Rivas also had two stolen bases and moved into a tie for 8th all-time
- Bryden's RBI single was the first base hit and RBI of her collegiate career
- Lee and Buckner led the Eagles with three hits
ON DECK
Winthrop returns home to host the Winthrop Eagle Classic Feb. 16-18. The Eagles open up on Friday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. against Binghamton and then face Le Moyne at 5:30 p.m.
