Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop head softball coach Kendall Fuller announced the 2025 schedule that will include 25 home games.
Like most seasons the Eagles will battle their way through tournaments over the first five weeks of the season with a couple of midweeks sprinkled in. Following that the Eagles dive right into Big South Conference competition and will round out the season with league series and midweek non-conference contests.
The 2025 opponents include five team's that played in an NCAA Regional, 16 with a winning record in 2024 and 13 that had 30 or more wins.
TOURNAMENT ACTION
The season begins over 2,300 miles away as Winthrop heads to San Diego for the La Jolla Invitational, hosted by the UC San Diego Feb. 7-9. Eagles will face Portland State, BYU and UC San Diego all for the first time in program history. The Eagles will also take on Long Beach State for the first time as they'll face The Beach in a single-game on Feb. 11.
Eagles return to the east coach the following weekend for the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C. Feb. 15-16. Winthrop will face Georgia State, Appalachian State and Miami (OH) twice.
Winthrop will then host three tournaments on consecutive weekends beginning Feb. 21-23 with the Winthrop Garnet & Gold Tournament. The tournament includes Brown, Le Moyne, St. John's (NY) and Youngstown State as the Eagles will take on each of them once.
The following weekend will be the inaugural Mark Cooke Memorial Feb. 28-Mar. 2, honoring the former head coach of the Eagles. The field includes Charlotte, Marist, Southern Indiana, St. Bonaventure and USC Upstate. The Eagles will face Marist, Southern Indiana, Charlotte and St. Bonaventure in that order over the course of the weekend.
The final regular season tournament is Mar. 7-9 with the Winthrop Eagle Classic. The field includes Boston, Norfolk State, Presbyterian College, Queens, and Western Carolina. The Eagles will face Norfolk State, Queens, Boston and Western Carolina (twice).
NON-CONFERENCE MIDWEEK
The Eagles have a number of competitive non-conference midweek contests slated beginning with Long Beach State on Feb. 11. The Eagles will also have road contests at Coastal Carolina (Feb. 25), College of Charleston (Mar. 18), East Tennessee State (Mar. 25), Wofford (Apr. 1), Clemson (Apr. 9) and South Carolina (Apr. 23).
There are three dates for non-conference matchups at home starting with Feb. 19 against UNC Greensboro in a single-game. The Eagles will host Youngstown State for a doubleheader on Feb. 22 and then the final home non-conference game is Apr. 16 with a single-game vs. Wofford.
BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE ACTION
Eagles look to build off last year's run to the championship game, where the Eagles were a game away from an NCAA Regional.
Winthrop opens the league schedule Mar. 15-16 as it hosts Longwood. The Eagles will also have home series with Charleston Southern (Mar. 28-29), and Presbyterian College (Apr. 25-26).
The road slate against league competition begins Mar. 21-22 in Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb. The remaining league road series are Apr. 4-5 at USC Upstate and Apr. 18-19 at Radford.
The Big South Conference Tournament will take place May 7-10 in Clinton, S.C.
