How it Happened
First Quarter | Both teams could muster a combined eight points in the first five minutes of play.

Ciara Harris put the Eagles up five at 9-4 at the 4:09 mark. South Carolina State would score the final four points of the quarter to leave Winthrop ahead 9-8.
Second Quarter | The Eagles scored seven of the first 10 points of the second frame to restore their five-point margin at 16-11 with 6:58 left. Harris would score five of those early Winthrop points. Then over nearly the next five minutes South Carolina State went on a 10-3 run to go up by two at 21-19 with 2:25 remaining.
Blessing Okoh's fastbreak layup with 26 seconds gave Winthrop a one-point lead at 22-21 going into the break.
Third Quarter | The third quarter was back-and-forth. South Carolina State outscored Winthrop by a slim 9-8 margin in the first six minutes of the stanza, resulting in a 30-30 tie with 3:48 to go. The visitors from Orangeburg went ahead by two at 33-31 more than a minute later following a free throw. But the rest of the frame belonged to the Eagles, as Winthrop concluded the quarter by scoring seven of the final nine points to take a 38-35 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Nuria Cunill's layup at the buzzer made it a three-point lead for the Eagles going into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter | Winthrop scored the first seven points of the fourth, taking a 10-point lead at 45-35 with 7:50 to play. The game would hang around a 7-9 point lead for the Eagles for the next three minutes. The closest the Bulldogs would get the rest of the way was five with 3:28 left to play at 49-44 as Winthrop would go on to win it by nine.
