How it Happened
Set 1 | The two teams split the first 14 points to start the night. Two straight errors and a kill by
Rachel McCollum gave Winthrop a 10-7 lead. UNC Asheville then fought back to tie it at 13 only to see the Eagles go back up three at 16-13 on consecutive kills by
Avery Jolley and an error by the Bulldogs. The home standing Bulldogs rallied for a 23-21 lead but two kills by Jolley and a kill
Giselle Little put Winthrop back out in front, 24-23. Jolley's kill on the next play clinched the set for Winthrop.
Set 2 | Winthrop jumped out to an early 10-3 lead. Jolley accounted for half of the early 10 Eagle points with five kills. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to five at 13-8 but six straight points scored by the Eagles put Winthrop up 19-8. The run included two aces by
Jenna Calloway. The Eagles would go on to take a 2-0 lead in the match several plays later. UNC Asheville would cut the lead to six at 24-18 but an error on the next play gave Winthrop a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 | Winthrop led 9-4 to begin the third stanza.
Isabella Murray had three kills to lead the way offensively for the Eagles in the early going. Winthrop eventually extended their lead to 18-8 by scoring nine of the next 12 points. Jolley had four kills during the offensive outburst. The Bulldogs then scored 10 of the next 15 points to trim the lead to 24-18 but
Paige Bennett's kill on the next play ended the night.

UP NEXT
The Eagles travel to USC Upstate on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and then host UNC Asheville on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming weekend.
On that day, the Eagle men's basketball program hosts Little Rock at noon. Free admission will be given to those who show their ticket from the men's basketball game. In addition, the first 100 fans who attend the match vs. UNC Asheville will receive free rope hats courtesy of Atrium Health.
