How it Happened
First Quarter | Georgia Tech scored the first eight points in the first minute of the contest before a turnaround jumper by
Leonor Paisana got the Eagles on the board at the 8:23 mark. The two teams then traded baskets for nearly five minutes, as the home team outscored Winthrop by only a slim 14-10 margin, making the score 22-12 with 3:28 remaining in the frame. With the Yellow Jackets up by this same score, Winthrop was held scoreless for the rest of the quarter while Georgia Tech got two baskets to take a 26-12 lead going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter | The Yellow Jackets scored the first four points of the second stanza before a follow tip by
Marissa Gasaway ended Winthrop's eight minute scoring drought and made the score 30-14 in favor of Georgia Tech at the 6:19 mark. After a three-point basket by the Yellow Jackets on their next possession, the Eagles scored five of the next seven points on and and-one plus the free throw by
Ronaltha Marc with 5:03 left and a pull-up jumper down low by
Amourie Porter following a Tech turnover with 2:43 remaining. Georgia Tech then closed out the half by scoring the final five points and taking a 40-19 lead heading into the locker room.
Third Quarter | Georgia Tech outscored Winthrop 21-4 to take a 38-point lead at 61-23 at the 4:11 mark. Winthrop was also held scoreless for three four-minute stretch from the 7:10 mark to the 3:54 mark when
Nuria Cunill drained a turnaround jumper for her first career points in the Garnet and Gold to make the score 61-25. Following Cunill's score, the Eagles ended the quarter by scoring six points while Tech got eight. Cunill scored four of the six points, coming on two free throws with 2:56 left and a turnaround jumper inside of a minute. The Yellow Jackets led 69-31 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter | Cunill picked up right where she left off, nailing a hook shot 11 seconds into the fourth quarter. This would prove to be Winthrop's only points for the next seven minutes of the stanza as Georgia Tech went on to score the next 11 points to lead 80-33 with 4:30.
Konnor Gambrell ended the scoreless drought by getting her first points as an Eagle on a jumper with 2:01 left in the game. The two teams then splitting the final eight points, making the score 84-39. Tech scored one more point on a free throw to wrap up the contest.
