How it Happened
First Quarter | North Florida led 5-0 three minutes in until
Ronaltha Marc's layup got the Eagles on the board. A few plays later the visitors restored their lead back to five on a layup only to have the Eagles tie it at eight with 4:07 left on Marc's score while getting fouled and a triple by
Leonor Paisana. The Osprey's then scored the next five points but the Eagles once again knotted things up at 13-13 with 36 seconds remaining on
Nuria Cunill's layup on the fast break and a three-point bomb by
Ciara Harris. The score would be tied at 13 after 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter | North Florida scored the first basket of the quarter 16 seconds in but the Eagles went on a 13-6 run to take a 26-21 lead with 4:24 left in the half.
Amourie Porter led the way offensively for the Eagles during the run with seven points. The Osprey's cut it to three with a layup on their next offensive possession but the Eagles extended their lead by constantly going to the free throw line. Winthrop went up by eight at 33-25 with 1:29 remaining after
Blessing Okoh's two free throws but Paisana's triple gave the Eagles their largest lead of the half at 36-27 with 27 seconds to go. The visitors wrapped up the half with a free throw and Winthrop went into the locker room ahead by eight.
Third Quarter | The Osprey's scored nine of the first 13 points of the frame to make the score 40-37 at the 5:51 mark. Porter stopped the North Florida run with a fastbreak layup with 4:22 remaining in the quarter. The Eagles also held the opposition to no points for three minutes. North Florida then scored while getting fouled but missed the free throw only to watch
Ciara Harris drain one from deep to extended the lead to six with nearly two minutes left. North Florida then answered with a basket down low but Paisana drained her 100th career three-pointer with 34 seconds left to give the Eagles a 48-41 lead. The Osprey's wrapped up the stanza with two free throws.
Fourth Quarter | The visitors scored the first four points of the fourth quarter but the Eagles responded with an 11-2 run to go ahead by 10 at 59-49 with 6:13 left. Paisana led the way with seven points during the rally. North Florida scored four quick points but
Marissa Gasaway's two free throws and a free throw and a basket by Porter put the Eagles up 64-53 with 3:16 remaining. The Osprey's then scored five straight points but Marc's layup and five more free throws by the Eagles salted it away, putting Winthrop up 71-59 with 31 seconds left.
