How it Happened

Set 1 | Winthrop led 11-7 in the early moments of the match. Rachel McCollum had four kills to lead the Eagle offense at the start of the contest. Presbyterian fought back to cut it to one on four separate occasions, the last at 15-14 but two kills by Karli Shepherd, a kill by Isabella Murray and two kills and two block solos by Giselle Little made it a six point game at 22-16. With the score 24-16, Avery Jolley's kill ended the set and put Winthrop up 1-0 in the match.

Set 2 | The Blue Hose led 4-1 before a block solo by Murray, a kill by Jolley and two straight kills by Little put Winthrop ahead 5-4. Presbyterian scored the next two points to lead by one before five straight points scored by the Eagles put Winthrop ahead to stay for the remainder of the set. After Presbyterian scored seven of the next 12 points to make it a two-point deficit at 15-13, three mistakes by the Blue Hose and another kill by Jolley gave Winthrop a 19-14 lead. The visitors from Clinton then fought back by scoring six of the next eight points to cut it to one at 21-20 but two straight kills by McCollum put the Eagles up by three. Presbyterian scored on the next play but Shepherd's kill made it set point immediately thereafter. Two plays later the Eagles made it 2-0 in the match in their favor on an error by the Blue Hose.

Set 3 | The set was tied at three before an error by the Blue Hose, a kill by Jolley and an ace by Murray broke the early deadlock. Presbyterian quickly cut it to one only to have the Eagles score three straight points once again on kills by Jolley and Shepherd and an error by the Blue Hose to extend the lead to 9-5. The Eagles would then pull away after that, eventually going up 21-12. This also included a run of six straight points.
