Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball got back in the win column by sweeping Charleston Southern at home Friday night.

How it Happened
Set 1 | The Buccaneers led 3-1 before the Eagles rattled off a huge 19-5 run to take a 20-8 lead.
Karli Shepherd had eight of the 18 Eagle points during the run, including four straight points, three of them being kills and an ace. Shepherd ultimately had six kills, an ace and a block assist during the set. The Eagles also scored eight straight points overall during the run. After Charleston Southern scored four of the next five points to cut the lead to 21-12, the Eagles wrapped up the set by also scoring four of the next five points. With the score 24-13,
Paige Bennett's kill gave Winthrop a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2 | Winthrop trailed 6-2 before seven straight points vaulted the home team into a 9-6 lead.
Maeve Rehmann had three kills during the run. Charleston Southern quickly knotted it up but another big run by the Eagles, this time a 12-4 tally, put Winthrop up 21-13. Rehmann and
Rachel McCollum accounted for seven of Winthrop's 12 points during the tiebreaking spurt. Ahead 21-14, Winthrop ended the second set by scoring the final four points.
Avery Jolley's kill doubled Winthrop's lead in the match.
Set 3 | Down 3-1, five straight points put the Eagles ahead 6-3 after an ace by Shepherd. Shepherd also recorded an ace two plays earlier. Winthrop kept things going, eventually going up 24-12 after a kill by Bennett, making it an 18-9 extended rally after Winthrop was up 6-3. Charleston Southern scored the next three points but Shepherd's kill ended the night on the next play.
