How it Happened

First Quarter | The first 4-5 minutes of the ballgame resulted in an early 4-4 tie, with a three-pointer by Blessing Okoh being Winthrop's only field goal during this span. The home standing Highlanders broke the deadlock with a 12-0 run, taking a 16-4 lead at the 2:16 mark. Leonor Paisana drained one from downtown to end the Radford run with less than two minutes left. After another Radford basket, Elli Garnett hit one from deep to cut the lead to 18-10 at the end of the frame.

Second Quarter | Nyah Stallings went on a personal 5-0 run immediately to start the second quarter to make the score 18-15 in favor of Radford and seconds later Marissa Gasaway's layup cut it to one. Radford did answer with a basket following Gasaway's score but Stallings did the same a few plays later at the 6:47 mark. Then Paisana's three-pointer gave the Eagles their first lead of the day nearly thirty seconds later. Another Radford basket tied it at 22 shortly after that and remained the score for two minutes. The Highlanders went up by three points at 25-22 but six quick points by the Eagles put them back out in front 28-25 with less than two minutes remaining. Consecutive layups by Angel Burgos accounted for four of the six Eagle points during the run. After a Radford free throw, Winthrop scored four more points to take a 32-26 lead going into the break.

Third Quarter | Each team got a basket to start the second half, making the score 36-28 Eagles two minutes in. After a couple of Radford free throws, Burgos made it a seven-point margin on a layup at the 6:39 mark. The Highlanders drained a triple a few plays later but Burgos did the same on the next play to restore the lead back to seven. Radford then scored 10 straight points to go up 44-41 with less than two minutes left but a Stallings triple tied it again on the next Eagle possession. The Highlanders hit another triple to go back up by three with exactly a minute remaining in the frame. Winthrop would eventually enter the fourth trailing 49-45.

Fourth Quarter | Radford took a 54-47 lead nearly a minute and a half into the frame but consecutive baskets by Stallings made it a three-point game at the 7:17 mark. A Radford basket put them up 56-51 with five minutes to go but Winthrop answered again to make it a three-point game on the next play. The Highlanders then hit one from deep to go up six inside of three minutes remaining and two more free throws on their next possession sealed the victory.
