How it Happened
First Quarter | Presbyterian began the night with an 8-2 lead before 13 straight points put Winthrop up 15-8 with 3:14 left. Six of those 13 points were consecutive three-point shots by
Elli Garnett. During the run, the Eagles also held the Blue Hose scoreless for more than four minutes. However, the visitors answered with an 11-0 run of their own to conclude the quarter.
Second Quarter | With Winthrop trailing 19-15 to start the second quarter, the two teams split the first 12 points, leaving Winthrop still down four at 25-21 with less than six minutes left. However, the Eagles would go scoreless for four minutes while PC tacked on a pair of layups to increase their lead to eight with nearly two minutes to go. Winthrop would finish the half strong, cutting the lead in half with two layups of their own and went into the locker room down 29-25.
Third Quarter | The visitors scored 10 of the first 16 points of the second half, taking a 39-31 lead at the 4:16 mark. PC added four free throws and a triple a few minutes later to go up 15 with 26 seconds left while holding Winthrop scoreless for nearly the rest of the quarter after the Eagles' hit a layup with 4:40 left. After three quarters of play, Winthrop trailed 46-33.
Fourth Quarter | Ahead 13, the Blue Hose scored nine of the first 11 points to take a commanding 55-35 lead with 4:29 left, all but sewing up the game for the visitors. They also held Winthrop to just two field goals in the first six minutes of the quarter. Winthrop would score six straight points once the Blue Hose got up 20 but a three-pointer and a free throw by PC took their lead up to 18.
