Game Recap
- The Eagles gave the ball away in the midfield in the 20th minute as Upstate countered quickly with a through ball to Dara Russo who had a one-on-one with the keeper inside the box but Izzy Giarrizzi came up with a big save to keep it scoreless
- In the 23rd minute Russo dribbled past a defender in the box and fired a low shot toward the right corner but Giarrizzi was down for the diving save, not allowing a rebound
- Giarrizzi finished with eight saves in the first half, but just the two she had to leave her feet for as she was well positioned on the others
- A defensive giveaway from their own box proved costly for the Eagles as Paige Armstrong stole the ball and played a pass to Russo in the box
- Russo then took a touch and placed a shot around a Winthrop defender into the left corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead in the 49th minute
- Russo made it 2-0 less than a minute later when she fired a ball on frame from wide and outside the box that sailed over the head of Giarrizzi and fell into the back of the net
- In the 54th minute Annabel Thomas ran onto a pass that split the Upstate defense as she crossed into the box with a free look at goal but her shot was turned away by the keeper and cleared
- Spartans got their 3rd goal in the 61st minute as a long ball into the box fell at the feet of Armstrong as she fired a shot from just outside the six as Giarrizzi made a diving save but the rebound came right to Ashley Finn who placed a shot into the open net
Notables
- This was just the second game this season the Eagles and their opponent were scoreless at the half (other was at ETSU in 1-0 loss)
